ProAct Cleaning our thrilled to announce we are now officially a Recognised Service Provider proudly working with the Living Wage Foundation, actively promoting the Real Living Wage. This wage is set at £12 per hour, calculated based on the cost of essential goods and services needed for a decent standard of living.
Why It Matters
We are committed to paying our staff a wage that better reflects the challenges of the work they perform, reflecting this rate in our quotes for new business and in our contracts with commercial cleaning clients. This ensures our employees can handle unexpected expenses like a dental visit or a weekly grocery bill without financial strain. Unlike the minimum wage, our pay structure is age-independent, emphasising the value we place on all our employees.
Real Living Wage vs. Minimum Wage
The national living wage, mandated by the government for adults aged 21 and over, is currently £11.44 per hour (as of April 2024). In contrast, the Real Living Wage is a voluntary rate, set at £12 per hour across the UK and £13.15 in London. This rate is independently calculated annually to cover the actual cost of living, factoring in economic and environmental changes.
Implementing the Real Living Wage
We discuss the Real Living Wage with our customers during contract reviews, aiming to adjust contract values to reflect annual wage increases. For new contracts, we quote rates that include or exceed the Real Living Wage, demonstrating our commitment to fair pay. While not all clients may choose this option due to additional costs, we actively promote the benefits of paying a fair wage to our staff, highlighting its importance for employee well-being.
